International Calling – IDD and Country Codes
IDD (International Direct Dialing) is a telecommunications service that allows you to make international calls without using a third party operator. Basically, it’s a code that indicates you are making a call outside of the country. If you are calling from a mobile phone, dial + (0 on the keypad) in place of the IDD code.
Every country has a country code. Some codes may be the same for multiple countries. For instance, the United States, Canada, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic all use the same country code, 011.
To place an international call, you must enter the IDD code (or + on a mobile phone) of the country you are calling from, and the country code for the country you are calling, followed by the area code or city code (if applicable), and phone number. For example, if you are calling Italy from the United States, you would enter the United States IDD code, 011, and Italy’s country code, 039, followed by the area code and phone number.
Go to https://countrycode.org/ for a list of IDD and country codes. Simply select the country you are calling from and the country you are calling to generate the IDD code, country code, and dialing instructions.
